Winter is coming, is your car ready?

Winter has arrived, and with it we can expect some challenging weather conditions that will test both your driving skills and the performance of your vehicle. So what can you do to keep your vehicle performing well this winter?

We asked our Service Manager Adam for his top three winter vehicle maintenance tips and here's what he had to say.

1. Get your battery checked

"A functioning battery is a must have for an efficiently running vehicle". Colder weather can affect the performance of your car battery, especially if it is three years or older. When the temperature outside drops it affects your batteries ability to start and run your vehicle, this is due to the chemical reaction inside the battery slowing down.

To avoid a flat battery, or a car battery that fails to start your make sure you get your battery checked by a qualified mechanic.

2. Check the tread and pressure on your tyres

"Your tyres are the only thing keeping your car on the road, so it's important to care for them and maintain them." Low pressure or reduced tread can affect things like traction on the road, vehicle handling and stopping power. There are tread-wear indicators located on the rim of all tyres and the pressure can be checked using a pressure meter at most petrol stations.

3. Check your wiper blades

"Last but not least, check your wiper blades." When the rain is coming down in buckets on your windscreen you want to make sure your wiper blades can effectively clear the water and any debris to provide you with a clear vision of the road. Wiper blades should be checked every 3-6 months.

You can rest assured when you bring your vehicle in for one of our 65 Point Safety Checks that our qualified mechanics will check each and every one of the above items and provide you with a full report, with pictures, should anything needs replacing or repairing.
